How to Download TikTok Videos on PC or Mac

Most guides assume you're saving TikTok videos on a phone — but doing it on a computer is actually easier. Bigger screen, proper file management, no app-related quirks. Whether you're on Windows, Mac, or Linux, the process is the same and takes under a minute.

Step 1: get the video link from tiktok.com

Open tiktok.com in any browser and find the video you want. You have two easy ways to grab its link:

Both link types work identically in a downloader.

Step 2: paste and download

Open Tikksave in another tab, paste the link into the input box, and pick your format — MP4 without watermark for a clean video, MP4 with watermark, or MP3 if you only want the audio. Click download, and the file lands in your browser's Downloads folder (typically C:\Users\you\Downloads on Windows or ~/Downloads on a Mac).

Why the desktop workflow is better for collections

If you're saving more than a video or two — building a reference library, archiving your own content, collecting clips for an edit — the computer wins clearly:

A simple naming habit saves headaches later: include the date and a keyword, like 2026-07-13-recipe-pasta.mp4. Six months from now, you'll actually be able to find things. If you're archiving your own account, our full backup guide covers the complete process.

Do you need to install a program?

No — and for most people, you shouldn't. Desktop downloader programs exist, but they're overkill for normal use: they need updating whenever TikTok changes something, and bundled installers from unofficial sites are a classic malware source. A browser-based downloader involves installing nothing, which means there's nothing to keep updated and nothing risky on your system.

Troubleshooting on desktop

Download opens as a playing video instead of saving? Right-click the download link and choose Save link as… — that forces a save dialog.

Video won't process? Check the link opens correctly on tiktok.com first. Deleted videos, private accounts, and region-locked content can't be downloaded by any tool. Our troubleshooting guide walks through every common error.

The bottom line

Copy the link from tiktok.com, paste it into the downloader, save the MP4 — that's the entire process. No software, no signup, works on any operating system, and it's the most comfortable way to manage anything more than a couple of saved videos.
